Environmental performance

Environmental improvement is an opportunity for innovation.

EcoVision
Philips Healthcare is fully committed to the Philips EcoVision4 and EcoVision5 programs, which run until 2012 and 2015, respectively. These programs have dedicated targets on bringing care to people, green products, green sales, and green innovation, energy efficiency of our operations and our products.

EcoDesign

Across our product range, we are driving sustainability in all aspects of product creation through our EcoDesign process. Introduced in 1994, our EcoDesign procedures deal with all phases of product development and will improve the environmental impact of our products across their whole Life Cycle – materials used, production, packaging, transport, usage and end of life. The EcoScan software tool has been developed by Philips for conducting the Life Cycle analysis.

Our EcoDesign program results in Green products, which offer customers, users and society a significant environmental improvement on energy and material usage.

ISO 14001
Philips requires all its manufacturing sites to be certified to ISO 14001, “Environmental Management Systems – Requirements with Guidance for Use”. ISO 14001 is an International Standard, formulated by the International Standardization Organization (ISO) that forms the basis for setting up, auditing and certifying environmental management systems.

Suppliers and Environment
Environmental responsibility is part of the Philips Sustainability Code for Suppliers. In addition, our suppliers are required to comply with our framework of substance management, and can now submit the required chemical information for all articles supplied to Philips through a web-based industry platform called BOMcheck. This framework will prepare us for environmental legislation such as RoHS and REACH.
