An audience of medical clinics, ambulatory centers, hospitals, and other medical facilities from throughout the U.S. today heard speakers on Philips Healthcare’s latest webinar analyze the role of “the medical home,” a concept that many see as an answer to both cost and quality problems in the US.
The medical home is not a specific location of care, but an approach to providing comprehensive primary care in which a patient’s primary provider would coordinate all of the care the patient receives. The webinar, entitled “The Medical Home: A Model for Reform?” examined two programs now underway—the upcoming Medicare Medical Home Demonstration and the “Patient Centered Medical Home” pilot program recently launched by Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Cigna Healthcare.
