In March, 2008, CMS decided to withdraw its earlier national coverage proposal that would have significantly reduced Medicare coverage for cardiac CT angiography. Instead, the agency decided to allow local Medicare contractors to continue making their own coverage decisions. Thus, local decisions continue to define the exact nature of Medicare coverage.
