Philips Webinar on Provisions of MIPPA Law Draws Nationwide Customer Audience

An audience of more than 100 medical clinics, imaging centers, hospitals, and other medical facilities from throughout the U.S. today heard speakers on Philips Healthcare’s latest webinar analyze the likely impact of imaging accreditation and appropriateness provisions of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, or MIPPA.

The new Medicare law requires providers of advanced diagnostic imaging services, including CT, MR, Nuclear Medicine, and PET, to be accredited by 2012 in order to receive payment for the technical component of those services. The law also establishes a two-year voluntary demonstration project to test the use of physician-developed appropriateness criteria.

The session featured speakers from the American College of Radiology, American College of Cardiology, the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission, and the law firm, Alston & Bird, which is managing the Access to Medical Imaging Coalition. The speakers not only explained the provisions of the law, but also offered insights on steps that customers can take now in preparing for the coming changes.

The session was the second in a series of Philips webinars that translate important new Medicare reimbursement policies into terms that are meaningful to customers and their employees. The first Philips webinar was held in June and focused on Medicare’s move toward value-based purchasing and pay-for-performance.
