Top U.S. hospitals choose Philips

If you've purchased Philips Medical Systems products, do you wonder if the best hospitals use Philips products too?  Well, they do.

A yearly distinction
Published annually for the last 15 years, the US News & World Reports: 2004 Best Hospitals report ranks U.S. medical centers in 17 specialties from cancer and heart disease to pediatrics and urology.  They focus on three elements in determining their rankings:

  • Reputation – survey of board-certified AMA doctors
  • Mortality Ratio – measurement of the hospital’s ability to keep patient’s alive
  • Other care-related factors – assessment of nursing and patient services

The report states that, “Of all 6,012 U.S. medical centers, only 117, or fewer than 1 in 30, were of high enough quality to be ranked in even a single specialty this year.  A mere 14 hospitals made the Honor Roll, a list reserved for centers with very high rankings in at least six specialties.”

Philips on top
We looked into this a bit further and found that Philips equipment is a clear technology contributor in two prominent report specialties:

  • Heart Disease – Of the top 50 heart hospitals on the list, over 95% are using Philips products in Cath Labs, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound or Patient Monitoring.
  • Cancer – Of the top 50 cancer hospitals on the list, over 90% are using Philips Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound or Patient Monitoring technology.

And of the 14 top hospitals on the Honor Roll, over 98% have chosen to use Philips healthcare technology at their institutions.

Why?
Why this distinction of ‘Best Hospital’?  A hospital on this list stands out as a model among peer institutions.  They are often referral centers, handling tough cases at high volumes – with leading experts providing treatment.  “And they take advantage of improvements in imaging, surgical devices and other technologies,” notes the report.

At Philips, we understand the care and importance of selecting only the very best in medical technology.
