Vascular Advanced Health Education Center Ultrasound Programs

Course:

Vascular Ultrasound

Specialty:

Vascular

Description:

This 5-day seminar will cover vascular anatomy and hemodynamics in depth. Spectral and color Doppler physics will be discussed, from the discovery of the principle by Dr. Christian Andreas Doppler through the detailed physics of both modalities. The correlation between the Doppler modalities will be covered so that you can correctly interpret the information in your scans. The optimization of the major Doppler controls of each modality will be discussed and examples will be shown. The know-how to optimize these functions will improve your ability to produce more diagnostic images at the scanning sessions. Presentations will be given on the use of Doppler in each of the following studies: carotids, peripheral venous, peripheral arterial and abdominal. These clinical presentations will include the anatomy and hemodynamics of the vessels under discussion, normal and abnormal studies and scan tips. All the studies will be demonstrated and you will practice on models during the scanning sessions.

Objectives:

At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

• Correctly identify vessel anatomy and orientation in a vascular ultrasound examination.

• Identify the variations in instrumentation and Doppler principles and the effects in scanning parameters.

•  Describe the flow characteristics and the manifestations of disease processes.

• Discuss QA of the procedure and equipment.

• Analyze the results of a vascular exam for pathological conditions and in certain cases, quantify the diseases.

• Identify additional resource information on vascular ultrasound.
