2007 North American Frost &
Sullivan Award for Product
Line Strategy

Award Recipient: Philips Medical Systems

Frost & Sullivan is proud to present Philips Medical Systems with the 2007 North American Product Line Strategy Award in the Central Station Patient Monitoring market for the company's broad product suite, complemented by the ICIP Critical Care Clinical Advisories System.

Based in Andover, Massachusetts, Philips Medical Systems is a leading developer of patient monitoring products and solutions.  As a total solutions provider, Philips has been successfully expanding its capabilities to maintain its leadership role in both patient monitoring and healthcare information technology.  Carrying the industry forward into a new era of patient monitoring concepts and technology, Philips Medical Systems has introduced an integrated Clinical Advisory System that operates over its ICIP Critical Care application. This new system further closes the loop in comprehensive patient monitoring by not only integrating previously disparate information systems but also adding an unprecedented layer of automated clinical intelligence.

Comprehensive Solutions through In-House Integration

Philips Medical Systems offers a wide range of clinical devices and applications. By enabling integration among related applications, Philips can offer complete customized solution packages. Philips’ consumers can take advantage of every new design and product upgrade without having to deal with compatibility issues.

Products developed through partnerships are complex and slow to develop. Consumer would have to deal with several parties before and after the solution implementation. If at any point one of the parties decides to discontinue its partnership, then the consumer would face problems in terms of service support and upgrades. Philips’ long history of customer service excellence give a peace of mind to the healthcare provider, and by offering a complete solution package, the consumer would not have to deal with multiple vendors.

Innovative Spirit

From the introduction of the first ever cassette tape, DVD, laserdisc reader, and other groundbreaking consumer products, Philips has been in the forefront of technology innovation. It comes in no surprise that Philips Medical enjoys the same innovative spirit in the world of medical technology. By the introduction of ICIP Critical Care, not only was Philips Medical able to offer complete in-house integration before the industry could even develop data communication standards, its in-house solutions continue to advance rapidly.

Expanding Partnerships to Enhance Value for Customer

Philips Medical is continuing to expand its partnership with other healthcare IT companies, like Epic, to integrate their EMRs into Philips' ICIP Critical Care. Once integrated with other monitoring systems, Philips uses its advanced clinical knowledge to add automated intelligence, such as Clinical Advisory Alarms, to the loop. The ICIP Critical Care delivers real-time clinical decision support by gathering virtually every element of accumulated patient data in one place and applying rules to deliver clinical advisories. The Clinical Advisory Alarms system, along with elevating the quality of care, drastically reduces costly and common errors.

These partnerships will allow hospitals to take advantage of ICIP Critical Care utilizing their existing data gathering systems, thus helping them to maximize their return on past investments.

Closing the Loop in Medical Technology

By pioneering integrated clinical data solutions, Philips Medical has set a new standard in hospitals’ expectations. While competitors attempt to adhere to the new heights set by Philips, this total medical technology solutions provider constantly raises the bar, thus keeping its edge.
