MR guided non-invasive procedure

MR guided non-invasive procedure

Ablating tissue through the intact skin

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is used to heat and coagulate tissue deep inside the body. MRI measures temperature changes within the human body, making it useful for planning and monitoring thermal ablation processes such as HIFU.
Volumetric heating

Volumetric heating

Treatment efficiency

For heating of large volumes, the ultrasound focus is moved over the volume to be ablated, creating an ellipsoid shaped homogeneous thermal lesion. Size can adjust up to 16 mm in diameter and 40 mm in length.
Real-TI

Real-TI

Real-time temperature monitoring

The MR scanner acquires temperature-sensitive images for monitoring local heat distribution. The Real-TI bi-directional interface enables real time data transfer for directing the MR system through the Sonalleve console and retrieving images.
Real-time feedback

Real-time feedback

Predictable lesion volumes

Real time temperature readings automatically optimize HIFU delivery parameters, creating a feedback loop to better assess and compensate for local variations in tissue properties such as inhomogeneous absorption, attenuation, perfusion or diffusion.
Easy set-up

Easy set-up

Fast switching between MR and HIFU

HIFU functionality is available in a separate table that easily slides over the standard MR patient support while the diagnostic table is left in its lower position. Switch between diagnostic MR and HIFU therapy in a matter of minutes.
Easy clinical workflow

Easy clinical workflow

3-step guided procedure

  1. Planning stage uses 3D MRI data sets on the Sonalleve console
  2. Non-invasive treatment stage uses HIFU to elevate target volume
  3. Therapy-verification stage uses contrast enhanced MRI for assessment
Patient comfort

Patient comfort

For optimal patient compliance

Sonalleve MR-HIFU is designed for maximum patient comfort. The curved tabletop relaxes the patient. Multiple mattresses are available for patient positioning. The feet first entry and Ingenia 70 cm bore further reduce patient anxiety.
Ingenia 70 cm bore

Ingenia 70 cm bore

The freedom to treat

Sonalleve MR-HIFU uses the 70 cm wide bore of the Ingenia systems, offering ample possibilities to position patients for HIFU treatment, such as prone for uterine fibroids or supine or lateral for different sites of bone metastasis.
dStream

dStream

Prepared for the future of MR

Sonalleve MR-HIFU features the exciting Philips-exclusive DirectDigital RF MR system architecture dStream, which delivers crystal clear images at remarkable speed, providing distinct advantage for image-guided therapies such as MR-HIFU.
