Advanced Workshop for Ultrasound Guided Nerve Blocks

 

Description:

This is a 2-day intensive ultrasound workshop offered to anesthesiologists who have prior experience with ultrasound guided nerve blocks. At the end of this ADVANCED course, participants would have acquired a thorough knowledge of imaging and block techniques of the following nerve structures. They are:

  • Saphenous nerve
  • Obturator nerve
  • Fascia iliaca
  • Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve
  • Ilioinguinal & iliohypogastric nerves
  • Transverse abdominis plane
  • Sciatic nerve in the gluteal, subgluteal and proximal thigh regions
  • Lumbar neuraxial space (adult)
  • Psoas compartment
  • Continuous catheter technique

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this continuing medical education activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Understand the principles of ultrasound imaging of smaller nerves and nerves in deeper locations
  • Describe nerve block techniques for the lumbar plexus and its branches in the lower limb and trunk, the sciatic nerve in 3 deep locations and the neuraxial space
  • Recognize ultrasonographic images of nerves in the above mentioned regions
  • Perform the technique of ultrasound guided nerve blocks
  • Acquire hands on nerve scanning skills
