Philips IntelliVue 802.11 Infrastructure offers bedside and transport monitoring on an industry-standard 802.11 a/g infrastructure. By using industry-standard protocols and network components, Philips is able to offer a cost-effective solution for flexible patient monitoring.
The patient monitoring environment demands unique network requirements. Because patient status can literally change in a heartbeat, it is vital to minimize transmission delays and to avoid interference as much as possible. The IntelliVue 802.11 infrastructure can coexist with WMTS telemetry systems. It is not designed for use with or near other 802.11 networks that use the same spectrum. For example, enterprise 802.11b/g networks (2.4 GHz) can be used in the same space when the Philips infrastructure is set to use 802.11a (5 GHz). No wireless system can avoid interference entirely, but diligent frequency management in the facility can minimize the system’s vulnerability.
