October is Ultrasound Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Philips is pleased to offer the below specials.

3D Ultrasound in Gynecology (1 CE)
3D Ultrasound in Gynecology During this one-hour video presentation
Presenter: Dolores H. Pretorius, MD, Professor, Department of Radiology, University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Pretorius discusses how to do 3D ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries, demonstrates various display techniques used to assess the uterus and ovaries, and discusses current clinical applications of 3D ultrasound in the pelvis 
 

Categorizing Breast Disease through Sonographic Characteristics (1.5 CE)
This tutorial contains information on the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) TM guidelines developed by the American College of Radiology (ACR), sonographic characteristics of benign and malignant breast disease, and identifies uses of Doppler in the diagnosis of breast disease. The length of time required to complete this course will vary depending on, but not limited to, expertise of subject matter, reading speed, interruptions, and your Internet connection speed. On an average, each CME requires one hour of study time. The accrediting agency, not Philips, is responsible for determining the number of CME credits awarded for this course.

 

Assessment of LV Systolic Function with TDI, Strain, and Strain Rate (1CE)
The purpose of this tutorial is to introduce the learner to TDI, strain and strain rate. This tutorial presents the basic concepts and practical applications of these new echocardiographic techniques for the evaluation of LV systolic function. It is designed for learners who already possess knowledge and experience in echocardiography. The tutorial also includes a basic review of relevant aspects of cardiac physiology and a brief discussion of conventional assessment techniques for LV systolic function.

Breast Cancer Overview (1 CE)
This module is designed to give the healthcare professional a general overview of breast cancer. Upon completion the student will be able to distinguish between the basic forms of breast cancer and understand its various stages of development.  Additionally, there is a review of the most common detection techniques (including self-examination) and a discussion on the ever-expanding variety of imaging technologies.  Finally, there is an introduction to surgical and drug treatment options available.


Metastatic Inflammatory Breast Cancer (1 CE)
This case study provides information about a patient with metastatic inflammatory breast cancer. The patient’s medical history, results of diagnostic procedures and the course of treatment are presented. Details of the disease in general are discussed including etiology, sonographic, mammographic and clinical appearance and histologic findings.


Breast - Intraductal Papilloma (1 CE)
This learning exercise provides information regarding intraductal papillomas of the breast. The information is presented in a case study format.  By reviewing the medical history and the test results from ultrasound, mammography and galactography, the reader will be able to characterize the pathology. In addition, the library section contains further information regarding the pathology and a more in depth description of procedures, particularly ultrasound and materials used for these diagnostic tests. This case study will be helpful for learners in understanding and defining what intraductal papilloma of the breast is and how to reach diagnostic conclusions based on the information obtained.


Genetic Breast Carcinoma (1 CE)

This case study on genetic breast carcinoma will illustrate the unique information that each imaging modality, clinical exam, or test provides to reach a diagnostic conclusion. In addition, the library section contains further information regarding pathology and a more in depth description of procedures and material used for these procedures. This case study will define the role of mammography and ultrasound in the assessment of breast carcinoma, describe typical mammographic and ultrasound findings of breast carcinoma, contrast BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations and investigate strategies of management for women at high genetic risk for breast carcinoma.
